The nonfiction film scene in Peru was created and sustained by women since the early 1970s. The socially engaged nature of documentary attracted early filmmakers and videographers. Later, other generations joined, diversifying the narratives to express their subjectivities. In the 21st century, for reasons ranging from technological changes to territorial decentralization processes, there has been a sustained increase in nonfiction cinema made by women and sexual diversities. En el Siglo XXI, por motivos que van desde los cambios tecnológicos a los procesos de descentralización territorial, en el Perú se da un aumento sostenido del cine de no ficción hecho por mujeres y diversidades.
Casi todas estas películas, a lo largo de más de cincuenta años, responden a una determinación transformadora, encarnada en los procesos de trabajo llevados adelante por colectivos de trabajadoras siempre en diálogo con realidades invisibilizadas por el colonialismo, el racismo, el machismo y el clasismo. Estas tensiones aparecen también reflejadas en los procesos de producción de las películas.
Tanto los textos fílmicos como los procesos de producción que los hicieron posibles requieren mayor atención. El Archivo Reversible reúne fuentes primarias y las pone a disposición con el fin de colectivizar el acceso e incentivar el uso de materiales para la investigación del cine de no ficción hecho por mujeres, porque nuevas historias del cine y el audiovisual peruano están esperando ser escritas, filmadas, y compartidas por estudiantes, crítiques, investigadores, cineastes y comunicadores de cualquier tipo.

This platform is a living, evolving entity constantly adding new content and curatorial voices. We invite you to visit us regularly and explore the unfolding lines of research. We also welcome your suggestions for the inclusion of new materials. Our next goal is to decentralize the content by incorporating sources for the study of filmmakers who are not based in Lima.
